2015-09-08 : Vercor .. from across the river!

Hello all,

I'm sending this out to the larger group and will send a second email with info on how to access our trip log and some earlier postings if you are interested!

We find ourselves spending a second night at this very nice chambre d'hote in Saint Marcellin after riding in here yesterday along the bike path from Grenoble .. mostly along the l'Isere river.

We decided it would be more fun to look at the cliff's and tunnels of the Vercor region that lies east if the river from the more rolling hills of the Chambarans region west of the Isere.

Yesterday after we dropped our bags at the chamber d'hote, we did a loop I not the picturesque town of St Antoine de l'Abbay. It had a marvelous Abbey and most interesting village with lots of interesting tiled roofs and shops etc. Took lots of pictures!

Today we decided on a 83km loop picking up some of the more interesting towns in the area. We managed a few more churches and lots of climbing. The best part was coming in to St. Christophe at noon and getting assaulted by the church bells chiming 12 noon. The older gentleman passing by at the time gave us a cheery greeting to say that yes, it was apres midi!

83km 1484m ascent .. great views of the Vercor mountains coming download into the valley of Chatte and St Marcellien.

Tomorrow we are off with full paniers heading to the south catching an edge of the Vercor down to Sallains or Crest.

Cheers all,
Harold and Marion
