2017-08-25 :

Today we cycled across the Rhine into Germany and did a nice climb up into Vogtsburg hitting slopes of 10,12% through very quiet bike trails and roads before a quick descent into Bahlingen, Riegel and Weisweil.

All the town's on this side of the river are immaculately kept with perfectly paved roads and bicycle trails. When we finally joined the path along the Rhine, it turned out to be compacted stone .. which was fine as we still managed a 20km+ speed and enjoyed a cool breeze off of the river watching the swans show off their diving skills .. Well maybe they only get their necks below surface!

Marckolsheim was our lunch spot on the French side .. A very pretty town for an expresso!

It is quite interesting to see all the corn fields in the valley and as you ride up the sides of the valley you suddenly find grape vines on one side of the road and corn on the other!

It was a great day with lots of variety and a nice short 77km with 500m of climbing!

Tomorrow a visit to Colmar!

Cheers
