2013-10-06 : Sassoferrato and Gubbio

Friday we had an easy ride into Sassoferrato and were pleasantly surprised at how pretty the town is. Sasso is nestled in a beautiful valley surrounded by hills heavily treed. The old medieval town were we stayed is up high overlooking the not so pretty modern town. We stayed in a small apartment which was a palace at one time.

Marco and his partner opened the place up for us and were very friendly and told us all about the history of the town. The next day we woke up to rain and 90% pop for rest of day so we texted Marco and he was pleased to through us and bikes in his car and drive us to Gubbio over the route we had wanted to bike. It would have been a great ride! We will have to come back sometime and do it!

Gubbio has been very interesting and not too many tourists .. lots of locals which is nice. We climbed up to San Ubald at 908m above the town this morning. Great views and very interest museum describing the Ceri race event! Will have to read up on it on internet!

Off to Assis tomorrow as it looks like the weather system is starting to clear out!

Cheers to all
Harold and Marion
