Seventy-five years ago the Canadian's landed in Sicily on the beaches around Pacino with other Allied forces and chased the German and Italian armies across Sicily. Major battles were fought along the western slopes of the Mount Etna massif. 490 Canadian's are buried at this cemetery on a high point outside of Agira.
We visited this cemetery today after a strenuous 14km ride rising up the lower slopes of the hill top town of Agira. It was well worth the effort!
By afternoon we were zooming down smooth roads with great joy. Then the climb began up a small provincial road that ominously warned of poor road conditions! We encountered lots of mud and rough sections .. but survived fine! The views at the top we shared with wind generators and a good westerly breeze. We needed it as it was hot!
Ramacca is our stay tonight and it is a busy town with no tourist .. except us!
Tomorrow is a short 34km ride to Lentini.
Cheers
Harold and Marion
