So we picked a 96km loop out to Colmar designed to hit as many Plus Beaux Villages as we could!
Well, then we decided we did not want to come home on a busy road (for the traffic noise) .. so we added a finishing route through another handful of small villages before finally turning into Neuf Brisach!
It was a great route and we saw lots of cyclists and were amazed to discover our GPS tracks from ridewithgps put us on all the right paths and small roads!
Here is a list of some of the villages .. more for me to practice my spelling and pronunciation!
Husseren les Chateaux
Turckheim
Ammerschwihr
Kientzheim
Riquewihr (a Plus Beaux Village)
Ribeauville
Selestat
Missig (celery festival this wknd!)
Jebsheim (got water from Gite!)
Muntzenheim (like the cheese we had for lunch!)
Widensolen (where it posted 8km to home .. I tried to blow by the intersection so Marion would not see the sign .. Did not work;)
Do you see the German influence?
Neuf Brisach was designed by a specialist in fort design (Vaubon) .. and then in 1871, during the Prussian War, Neuf Brisach fell and over 80% of the town was destroyed!
When we finished our ride we managed 107km and only 560m of climbing but in +30C temperates ... we were tired!
Tomorrow we'll look for a shorter ride and save some time for the museum on Vaubon!
Cheers!
Harold and Marion
PS .. We will probably send alot of these emails .. mostly for my Mom to track our progress .. If this is too much for you, let me know and I'll remove you from the list and send you a link in Oct with the completed work!
