Yesterday we had a great ride from Chiusi to Pienza via alot of back roads and eventually climbing into Montepulciano. It was pretty busy around Montepulciano so we did not venture up into the old city .. maybe this week on a rain day from Pienza!
We arrived 1:30pm in Pienza and found a nice restaurant for lunch .. Great salads, ravioli with pecorino cheese and truffles .. It cost 2 euros per ravioli and I had 5 on my plate and got to eat 3 .. but they were very good;)
We are now settled in our apartment for the next week and today we did a day ride out of here. Great roads, nice and quiet with some great views .. But we managed to get on a road out of Asciano that was peppered with 10 and 15% grades .. and it was hot .. 32C+ .. did not get in until 3pm .. and this was suppose to be an easy 70km ride! We will make our ride alot shorter tomorrow as the temperatures are suppose to be the same!
Lots of activity in the town as the local music school is helping out with the celebrations with a drum and horn band .. lots of locals and Italians in town for the weekend. It will probably get quiet net week ..
You will see a number pictures attached with Monte Amiata in the background. Next week we cycle to Santa Fiora behind this mountain .. and we have to decide if we go left or right around it!
