Today's ride took us North-West out of town into the hills looking for churches ..and we found them!
Many of the buildings here are built with a mix of river stone and red brick. Very different!
Our first church was St Michael's .. and the door was open so we walked in! The lady was cleaning .. she said it wasn't St Paul's .. but they did their best!
The church in Royon was riverstone and brick and very nice. Door was locked. We enjoyed a cafe in this town.
Then we climbed a bit more and found our descent and a right turn on to a very quiet road that took us to St. Jean de Fromental ... a chapel built in 946! We had lunch and explored the cemetery and admired the sundial on the back side!
Last stop was St Antoine de l'Abbaye ... A 15th century Abbaye. Spectacular!
One last climb and it was down hill all the way home .. with the Vercor mountain views across the valley ... They seemed so close we felt we could reach out and touch them!
