2019-10-01 : Vezelay and more

With the threatening rain we decided 'no' to velo, 'no' to ebike and OUI to taxi .. so off we went hitting 100kph slowing to 60km around tight turns and BAM we were in Vezelay!

This a very pretty hill top village which fills with tourists but we beat the crowds and enjoyed wandering up to the Basilica at the top. Very beautiful!

We also enjoyed the art work of Georges Hosotte in a gallery and a coffee and croissant in a cafe with clear skies!

At noon we raced back to Avallon and toured the Eglise St Nazaire and lunch then, the surprise of the day, a private tour of the Costume Museum!

This museum is nothing like the Opera Costume Museum we saw in Moulins. Two elderly ladies have been collecting 'costumes' all over France for eons depicting the fashion trends of over 200 years back to Nepoleon 3rd. They have packed everything into this old house including furniture, paintings, tapestries and nick-nacks of all sorts. The Madame spoke excellent French (ie I could understand 80%) and she was an encyclopedia of facts on the customs of the day. We had a hoot!

At 1:30 it started to rain and intensified by 2:30. We are back at our hotel contemplating dinner ...

Cheers
