2016-09-05 : La Val d'Orcia

Hi all

Yesterday turned into a rest day and all we did was hang out in town eating gelatos and reading our books! The legs needed a rest!

Today we got going early to beat the heat and possible afternoon rain and chose a ride 62km long 1000m climbing with most of the climbing in the first half. Our destination was the hill top village of Radicofani south of Pienza across the Val d'Orcia which has a castle tower you can see from Pienza (right bump in first picture).

The climbing was pretty easy with fresh legs and the ridge views of the valley between us and Monte Amiata were spectacular! The views would be even better on a sunny day as we were getting alot of cloud and haze blowing in from the south as we peaked at Radicofani. So much so that we decided not to climb into the village but instead headed down the other valley to our East to run from the rain clouds .. which of course never materialized!

No mater, back in Pienza by 12:30 in time for a salad out side in a piazza .. Legs feel great! Much better than Saturday's slog! Humidity is still high .. possible rain tomorrow .. day by day.

Tomorrow I'm going to have to work on some people pictures!

Cheers
Harold and Marion
