2016-09-06 : Big sky day

Finally the humidity has gone and today's high was forecast at 23C! Sun sun sun!

We cycled half way to Montepulciano then swung North and found the quieter roads we were hoping for. Off to the east was dark cloud and rain in Umbria .. to the west was bright sun shine .. we swung West!

The nice thing about exploring an area like this for a week is you start to know the terrain and what to expect! So we kind of followed the GPS route but took liberties with it and improvised as we saw better roads possibly with less climbing.

This time in Asciano we found the down town core and a very nice bakery ... excellent raisin-walnut bread which we mostly ate before finally sitting down at the café for an expresso/cappuccino.

This time we took the right road out of Asciano and climbed through a beautiful valley with wonderful views to the north with Siena far in the distance noticeable by its towers.

With more energy today we could afford to explore some of the small villages .. and Montisi was the most notable .. quiet, pretty and some interesting piazzas.

.. Forgot to mention the Jersey Marion found in Asciano!

All in all a fabulous day .. Marion made an excellent pasta dinner for us tonight .. and now we are off to the grocery store to stock up! Two more dinners on our own before Tom, Rosemarie and Doug join us!

Cheers
Harold and Marion
