We've been here 3 nights and will spend one more before leaving tomorrow morning (Monday) for Termoli. Our plan is to move up to Pescara by train and on to Rome, again by train, and fly home Saturday!
Right now we are in a very nice B&B which I think we mentioned. We are right in the centre of this town across from the Duomo (church) in a nice piazza. This weekend there has been a religious conference of some sort as this is the centre of the diocese.
On our day off Friday we visited the local museum and were given a personal tour of the artifacts .. mostly in Italian! It was a fabulous exhibit of clay carvings in terracotta of busts and figures from around 300BC .. if I got that right! They also had some Roman marble carvings and a Roman mosaic floor that had been uncovered and relocated to this museum. Quiet amazing!
Saturday we jumped on our bikes and road an easy route across many open fields and finally a small ascent into the town of Troia. This place has a history dating back to Roman times and Hannibal .. Not sure what order that should be! The cathedral in Troia was quite special. What no one seems to talk about is how much reconstruction has happened to churches like this .. but it is quite evident from the strange mix of stone that there has been quite abit of rework over the years!
Today we road further into the mountains, more to our west, along great roads and then got scared out of the hills by billowing black rain clouds!
Lots of windmills in the area .. It was quite interesting riding above some of them as we ascended into our first town!
In the last few days this town has been rocking with a rap concert last night and maybe a rock concert tonight? The sound crew has been testing things out and it's going to be loud!
We hope everyone has a good Thanksgiving dinner and look forward to catching up with your news when we get back!
