The weather said rain at noon .. so off we went at 8am alone on the roads skirting the suburbs of Nevers with the rising sun on our backs creating huge 'bicycle shadows' for us to follow.

Down the hill to Fourchambault and across the Loire bridge, sharp right and BAM we were on the smoothest bike path we have ever seen!

We stuck to the bikepath all the way to the slopes of Sancere then it was a 6% climb into town and a cafe at the top!

60km in 2.5 hours ending in a 150m ascent.

I guess I should tell you where BAM comes from. The Strawberry Thief by Joanne Harris which is about a community in France where everyone has a secret they are trying to live with except for a little girl that refuses to talk and has an invisible friend who shakes things up whenever she says BAM!! It's a great book!

Our little apartment for 5 nights is going to be great! Fabulous views even with the rain that moved in on schedule at 12 noon!
