Pannier Tour from Denia - 14 days

We always wanted to check out some of the interior towns of Valencia and so a pannier multi-day tour seemed a good option.

On day 1, our route took us through Pego and up the beautiful Vall de Gallinera to Cocentaina.

The second day was a short day to Bocairent where we stayed 3 nights at the l'Estation Hotel - very nice.

Leaving Bocairent (day 5) we decided on the long route to Xativa on quiet roads but with some climbing over the Port de el Moro reaching 950m elevation. This was a fabulous ride with some great views.

We stayed 6 nights in Xativa and the riding was a bit challenging as we tried to figure out good routes with little traffic. We were largly successful discovering the small village of Sumacarcer close to a huge dam upstream - also accessible from Tous (unless road work!). Our biggest route-finding issue was mistakenly trying small roads crossing under the Autovia del Mediterraneo freeway. Most of these roads turned in to small single track with large boulders and sometimes water! Our apartment was right down town Xativa and Sofia was very welcoming inviting us over for traditional paella with the family Sunday afternoon.

On day 12 we rolled down the hill to Carcaixent and stayed in a small Bed and Breakfast run by a couple from France. The rooms and breakfasts were very nice and we especially enjoyed our day to the beach via Sueca.

Day 14 and we were on the road back to Denia on mostly flat roads. It was Easter and Gandia was a zoo!

All in all, a great tour!
